Research has shown that people with higher levels of wellbeing are healthier, have more resilience, stronger immune systems, have more tolerance to pain and live longer. (Langley 2015)

So- what is wellbeing?
According to The World Health Organisation (2014) wellbeing is ‘a state in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to her or his community.’

My preferred definition of wellbeing is ‘being in a state of balance or alignment of body, mind and spirit’. It is this state of balance that helps us view life from a more positive perspective where we are more able to make choices that help move us out of our perceived ‘stuckness’.

When we are feeling tired, stressed, worried and disconnected from others and even from life itself, it is often hard to see a way out and we frequently turn to things that we think will help us and make us happy or, simply, help us to ‘escape’ for a little while. However, we soon find that the apparent relief of a drink, a chocolate bar, a cigarette etc is short-lived and that, as well as the original ‘problem’ we now add on layers of self-recrimination, guilt and self-loathing. Without realising it, the choices we are making are the very things that are keeping us in this ‘stuckness’ and preventing us from living a life of balance and harmony.

In wellbeing coaching I work from the premise that you know yourself better than anyone else does. We start from where you are and look at where you want to be, exploring what you really need in order to begin to empower yourself.
Together we develop a pathway that is unique to you. I will share a variety of wellbeing practices that I have learned and used successfully, over the past fifteen years or so, that can take you from a state of low energy, self-doubt and overwhelm to a state of positive motivation and an ability to deal with stress.

Wellbeing comes from within and you will learn to understand and listen to your body and mind and create positive opportunities and environments where you can grow in confidence in your relationship with yourself and others and in your ability to succeed. In short, to live life in a state of balance of body, mind and spirit.

In addition to individual Life-coaching, Well-being Coaching and Reiki sessions at her Wellbeing and Mindfulness Studio at Barnabas Arts House, Philomena runs wellbeing retreat days, drop-in mindfulness sessions for the community and currently leads ongoing mindfulness meditation sessions at Barnabas Arts House.
