An ancient healing technique that enhances relaxation, which triggers the body’s natural healing abilities (immune system), aids in better sleep and improves and maintains health

Reiki is a method of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The technique was developed in Japan by Mikao Usui and is administered by the laying on of hands. It is based on the idea that all living things have a special energy flowing through them called life energy. When your life energy is high, you’ll feel strong and confident, be more relaxed and centred and less likely to get sick. When it is low, you’ll often feel tired, be more easily affected by stress and less resistant to illness.

A treatment can feel like a warm glowing radiance that flows through the body. It is a very relaxing experience and some clients report the body feeling heavy as it relaxes and yet the spirit or emotions feeling light at the same time. A treatment will usually release negative feelings or thoughts leaving the client feeling more positive, light hearted and with feelings of well-being.

I work from my beautiful Wellbeing Studio at Barnabas Arts House. There is an initial consultation, which is free. I usually give a short explanation of what the treatment involves and you will also be asked some details, including a brief medical history, as well as your reasons for wanting a reiki session.

You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you wish about the treatment and also about my own journey and qualifications in Reiki. You will then be invited to lie down fully clothed although you will be invited to remove such items as shoes and glasses should you wear them.

Treatment is given by placing my hands gently on your body in a pre-determined sequence of hand positions that are non-intrusive and cover both the front and back of the body. If you find any of the hand positions uncomfortable please let me know. You should find the touch gentle, light and comfortable; there is no massage or manipulation. You may feel sensations such as heat, tingling, coolness or throbbing or you may feel very little. Many people experience a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, or fall asleep; sometimes a treatment is energizing. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki. The treatment will normally last for 1 hour.
